Managing Personal Safety at Work

Pre-recorded Online Course

Looking for Personal Safety training for your managers?

Need them to meet regulations AND feel fully equipped to deal with staff questions, worries, and issues?

Want to keep their learning time to a minimum, while getting maximum benefit?

The Managing Personal Safety at Work training course is your solution.

Did you know 307,000 employees experienced 688,000 incidents of violence or threats in the workplace in England and Wales between 2019 and 2020?

That doesn’t even include verbal abuse.

And to be honest, these statistics don’t come close to reflecting the true picture – we know that these numbers are significantly underreported.

This is what your lone workers are up against. Every day. Just because they’re doing their job.

Would you like to protect your employees from experiencing violence, threats, and aggression?

The thing is, problems can happen so easily. Often in an unthinking moment.

When you’re busy. Or have been doing a job for a long time and have slipped into a routine. Or when you’re just trying to be a good team member. And in the blink of an eye.

Take Chloe’s story:

Chloe is a housing assistant. She was 22 when this incident happened.

She’d been asked to complete 40 tenant surveys. Now there was only one to go. It was Friday afternoon, and she was keen to finish them, so she rushed to interview a tenant she didn’t know.

A man let her in, then locked and bolted the door behind her.

Everywhere she looked in the flat there was hard core porn and he was visibly enjoying her discomfort.

And the worst thing? No one had any idea where she was.

No one.

Thankfully, Chloe got out.

But not without a severe fright.

Let’s face it, she was just doing her job.

It surprised me how many staff have had some sort of incident relating to lone working.

That’s why understanding Personal Safety measures is so important.

To keep your employees safe. And protect those who manage them too. Imagine being Chloe’s manager and finding out on Monday morning that Chloe had been attacked or was missing. What would you do? How would you feel?

Nobody wants Personal Safety incidents on their conscience.

Paulette Wharton from Magenta Living explains it in a nutshell:

It made me more aware that regardless of how often my colleagues spend on visits, Personal Safety is paramount as it only takes one incident for things to go terribly wrong.

It only takes one incident for things to go terribly wrong.

When it comes to Personal Safety, it pays to think ahead.

Training by Christine Morrison, a leading UK expert on Personal Safety

As you’ve seen with Chloe’s story, Personal Safety is way more than just meeting regulations and ticking boxes.

It’s also about preventing serious incidents, which can lead to employees on long-term sick leave, leaving their jobs and, unfortunately sometimes, even worse.

CMA training is fantastic.  The training is relevant, real, and personal.  Feedback from our employees is always positive and invariably mentions that their eyes have been opened to personal safety risks.

Your trainer, Christine Morrison

Christine started her career in the Police Force. It showed her the underbelly of society, how people can react unexpectedly and cause risky and dangerous situations. And above all, she saw how experiencing crime damages your trust in humanity and your confidence.

In 2003 she founded CMA Training to make people aware of crime prevention, their personal safety risks and the safer habits and solutions they can adopt.

Suzy Lamplugh’s murder and the ensuing shock, awakened a vocal, public need for personal safety awareness. Christine wanted to contribute and worked for the Suzy Lamplugh Trust as a training consultant from 2008.

She has hundreds of stories to tell about risks, near misses and unfortunately also things that went wrong. Christine dug deeper into these experiences during her recent MBA research.

As a result of all this, Christine has become a leading UK Personal Safety expert. She combines storytelling, thought-provoking questions and her in-depth practical and theoretical knowledge to provide hands-on, interactive trainings, which take managers from being Personal Safety-unaware to aware, organised, and equipped.

What does the Managing Personal Safety at Work training include?

w

A pre-discussion with your organisation to tailor the training course to your situation and procedures

An optional live introductory session for the managers with Christine (online) to get everyone reflecting on their own situation and build their awareness

A 6-module pre-recorded online course covering frameworks, regulations, action plans and procedures. Real-life examples make these trainings engaging, thought-provoking, and highly relevant.

An optional live round up session with Christine (online) to tie up any loose ends

i

If live sessions are included, Christine will make sure the client is fully debriefed (for example, issues that you may not be aware of)

To accompany the online training, there is a workbook, where managers can reflect on what they are learning, check their own situation and define action points. It also includes supporting documentation. After the training course, the workbook becomes a handy reference manual.

I liked that it was in small chunks and could be done in short sessions

Manager, Magenta Living

Christine is very professional and extremely responsive. She listens and uses her vast experience and knowledge to tailor her training to meet your exact needs.

Central Bedfordshire Council

We may not be able to completely rule out incidents, but we CAN significantly reduce Personal Safety risks.

Some things you might be wondering:

What’s the legal obligation about Personal Safety at work?

Under UK law, organisations have to ensure that their lone working staff receive training and information about Personal Safety.

Does this training apply to non-UK situations too?

Compliance demands may differ from one country to the next, but it always pays to take care of your staff’s Personal Safety. Most of the techniques that you will learn, apply wherever you are.

Our managers don’t recognise this problem. What would you say to them?

Awareness is key to making a success of Personal Safety. Let’s face it, once there has been an incident, it’s already too late.

How long does it take to complete the training?

Between 4-6 hours.

Can Christine come to our location?

This is a pre-recorded online course that managers work through at their own pace. So, there’s no need for her to come to you with this training course (this is also easier on your budget).

Is this training only suitable for managers?

This training is aimed at those line managers who manage lone workers and front-line staff. If you are looking for an online option for staff, click here.

What does it cost?

£95 per manager, excluding VAT. Live sessions are charged separately.

Can managers get the same value from a purely online training course as they could from face-to-face training?

This is about managing their time efficiently. Managers are very busy people. It’s often hard for them to commit to a full day’s training. This online course allows them to learn about this important issue in small chunks when they have a spare moment.

If you simply want to keep your staff safer through effective and focused training, you should work with CMA.

Head of Health, Safety & Facilities Manager, M&Y Maintenance and Construction

p.s.

Just one more thing.

Live training with Christine books up fast. In fact, at the moment, there’s a waiting list of six months. That’s one of the reasons she created this online training – so you don’t have to wait until she’s available before your managers get trained. Your managers can learn about managing the Personal Safety of their teams NOW.
