Case Studies
Blackpool Coastal Housing
For many years Christine has provided a rolling programme of Personal Safety training workshops to housing officers. Following excellent feedback this training was extended to all employees working on the frontline, including customer service staff, tenancy support officers and the in-house maintenance staff. The training was extended further with a commission to deliver a second stage programme to higher risk frontline staff. This training focuses on Managing Violence and Aggression and De-escalation Skills.
The profile of Personal Safety within the company has increased considerably, thus impacting positively on the safety and general well-being of staff.
Christine was fantastic. She made what was an intense subject enjoyable, interactive and engaging. She clearly has a vast amount of knowledge and used examples to demonstrate points.
Eildon Housing Association
In 2013 Dinah Faulds from the Eildon Housing Group attended a Personal Safety/ Lone Working workshop arranged by Healthy Working Lives, at which Christine Morrison was the keynote speaker.
Dinah particularly appreciated the style of delivery and the content of the presentation, and invited Christine to deliver some in-house training sessions at Eildon Housing Group later that year. The feedback was excellent.
Since then the Personal Safety / Lone Working workshops have become a permanent and popular feature on Eildon’s training calendar.
Christine has a most engaging style. Her workshops are lively, infused with enthusiasm and a wide variety of real-life personal examples that grab the attention. She brings to life a subject that is critical to our personal safety. All employees leave Christine’s workshops with food for thought and useful mnemonics to apply everyday to keep themselves safe. I have been delighted with the quality of training and excellent feedback from every session.
Greater Manchester Police
Greater Manchester Police has a long history of procuring training from CMA Training. Christine has designed and delivered bespoke courses in Crime Prevention, Problem Solving, Designing out Crime, Business Crime and Security Surveying skills.
Much of the training has been focused on front-line police officers and PCSOs in neighbourhood policing teams. This has enabled these officers to adopt a more practical and structured problem-solving approach to dealing with all kinds of issues in their area. Moreover they acquire the skills to offer more targeted and effective crime prevention advice to victims and potential victims of crime.
These one and two-day courses are practical and engaging; delegates are immediately able to put their newly-acquired skills into practice.
CMA Training has designed and delivered more in-depth courses to specialist Crime Reduction staff and Designing Out Crime officers. Recent delegates for these longer courses (three to five days) have additionally been offered national accreditation for crime prevention courses.
The training Christine provided was tailored and bespoke for the staff within our organisation, which made it very inspirational and energising. Christine encouraged classroom participation, bringing lots of ideas with both substantial and in-depth knowledge, together with case studies, learning from experience and being fully practice-oriented. The courses had a well-balanced composition, which contributed to interesting and focused discussions and exchanges. It more than delivered on the needs and requirements of our staff and our staff feedback has been extremely positive. I wouldn’t hesitate to commission Christine’s services in the future.
Onward Homes
Onward Homes is a relatively new organisation having brought together five North West housing associations in 2018. Christine previously delivered Personal Safety training to three of the former housing associations, and as such was invited to pilot a session for Onward’s senior management team. The success of this pilot led to CMA Training being commissioned to roll out an extensive programme of Personal Safety training for all Onward’s lone working staff in its three major hubs in Liverpool, Didsbury and Accrington. In addition to this core programme, Christine designed and delivered a bespoke course for call centre staff in handling abusive calls and conducts 1:1 coaching with certain high-risk employees.
Christine has provided a significant number of lone working training to Onward and I would not hesitate to recommend her as an expert training provider in this field. CMA has provided a 38-day Lone Worker training programme, developed and delivered a bespoke course for call centre staff in Handling Abusive Calls and has provided 1:1 training when needed. Her expert knowledge of the subject and industry sector combined with her delivery style fully engages her audience and there has been nothing other than excellent feedback from all employees who have attended her courses.
The Regenda Group
The core business of the Regenda Group is the provision of social housing across the north west but in recent years Regenda has expanded and now includes Petrus homelessness charity in Rochdale, Centre 56 domestic abuse support for children and families and The Learning Foundry providing education opportunities across Merseyside. Numerous activities undertaken by staff across the organisation require careful consideration of the risks to personal safety and the requirement for a robust approach to the management of lone working.
Christine has worked with the Group for several years and has played a pivotal role in supporting improvements to lone working and personal safety management. Championed by the Director of Safety and Business Performance, Regenda Homes won an award in the field of health and safety recognising the achievements of the business in relation to personal safety good practice and forward thinking.
In addition to delivering personal safety/lone working training to new colleagues and refreshers for existing staff teams on an on-going basis, Christine has been commissioned to undertake an in-depth review of the Group’s Independent Living Schemes. The scope of the review included 1:1 sessions with all scheme managers, assessments of building safety and security measures and consideration of the changing demands of the Independent Living scheme manager role. Christine has also worked directly with colleagues involved in high risk roles, shadowing and observing staff out in the field and providing recommendations in the form of summary reports.
Like all organisations, we have a responsibility to ensure our working practices comply with health and safety regulations – but to many people that can seem complicated and overly burdened with jargon. It is vital that we all understand why we are doing what we are doing and ensuring that our lone workers are not only safe but also feel safe, is very important to us. Christine’s training skilfully pulls together a comprehensive programme which helps our staff understand the risks they face on a day to day basis, together with skills and techniques to manage those risks. The training is always well received by all our colleagues and helps us develop a safe working culture.
Southern Housing Group
Christine was first introduced to this client via the lone worker monitoring company that Southern Housing Group used at the time. She offered a taster session to senior managers in order to demonstrate the benefits of face to face training in Personal Safety awareness as an alternative to the e-learning package that the client was then utilising. As a result CMA Training was commissioned to roll out a programme of both Personal Safety and Managing Violence and Aggression workshops for all customer-facing staff.
Southern Housing Group first began working with Christine in 2012 when she begain training lone workers about personal safety awareness. Since that date she has trained team members from across the business including Horsham, London, Theale, Ashford, Barking and on the Isle of Wight.
Christine has worked in partnership with the health and safety teams and personal safety ‘champions’ within the Group to achieve impressive results. Over the last few years, personal safety awareness has substantially increased; most lone workers have attended the training, personal safety is on all team meeting agendas, incident reporting has increased (to reflect what is really happening) and team members report that they feel supported. Christine’s work with Southern Housing Group has been first-rate.
